I just registered. Can I start posting right away?

No. You cannot post until you’ve submitted a character concept to an ST and received notice that it’s been approved for play.

How do I submit a character concept?

Using the forum private messaging system (FPM or PM), send your character concept to either Cass (Head Storyteller), Sunny (Storyteller) or Faelderg (Storyteller).

What is a character concept anyways?

A character concept is the image of the character you’d like to play. It should include some sort of biography or history, a physical description and some personality description as well. Pretend you’re describing someone as much as you can, and put it on paper. The richer the bio, the better.

As a player, you’re responsible for your character’s development. Make them grow, push their limits. Give them flaws. It’s ok to have a stereotype, but how did they get that way to begin with? Or is there something about them that the world doesn’t know that makes them the atypical bad ass? Does he actually have a heart of gold beneath all that muscle? Or is there really nothing there? Think about it, your character is a piece of you, and you have many pieces.

What kind of characters do you accept?

We are still determining what factions we will allow as concepts. As we draw closer to opening the game we will let you know.

Eventual werewolves and vampires? What do you mean, eventual?

There’s a lot of exciting material that comes with a werewolf’s first change or a vampire’s embrace. While you can aim for your character to become a werewolf or a vampire, all characters must start out as regular humans.

The rulebooks talk about dots, merits, and abilities. Do I need to put that in my character concept?

We call those stats. You can add your stats if you want to, though it’s been our experience that when players set character stats from the start, the character tends to change and flesh out better in play. What happens is that you’ve got a character with a full personality, that you know inside and out and the stats don’t match him or her anymore.

So you don’t want stats?

Yes, we do, but not necessarily to start with. It's just not that important to us or how we play. We’d rather see a really good bio and history than see stats. All players get a grace period to play their characters without stats, and then they can fit the stats to the character.

How long can I play my character without stats?

Until an ST decides you’ve played him long enough that you can easily fit stats to your character and that ST lets you know it’s time to do your stat sheet.

I’ve sent an ST my character concept. How long do I have to wait until it’s approved?

In general, character concepts are approved within two days, though we do reserve a full week to decide.

Do you ever deny character concepts?

Sure.

Which ones?

Fluffy-bunny princesses, drama queens and loners. If all your character can do is sit by itself and brood, or go on and on about its horrible life and squeeze out sympathy, or explode in other pack members’ faces and look for chance to challenge the Alpha, Prince or High Priest of the local Cabal, take it elsewhere. We don't want those kind of characters here.

That said, the character concept is an individual creation, and each one is different, so it’s very difficult to narrow down what we would and wouldn’t accept.

My character concept’s been denied for play. Now what?

When we deny a character concept for play, we also provide the reasons why we wouldn’t accept that particular concept, and suggestions as to what we would accept. You can always change the concept so that it meets our recommendations or start over.

Can I make changes to my character concept after it’s been approved?

Not unless you’ve requested permission from an ST to make the change and that change has been approved.

My character concept’s been approved. Can I start posting now?

Sure.

Okay... Where?

Any player is welcome to join a scene that’s already open, by having their character walk in. You can also open a new scene (topic) and start with what your character is doing and thinking. Someone will join in and your scene will take off from there.

How many characters can I play?

One, to start. After three months of good, consistent gaming, you can ask to create a second character, and you’ll go through the same approval process as you did with your first. Because you already have a character doesn’t mean the second will be approved, however.

How often am I expected to post?

Once a day is the norm (More is always acceptable). We can accept every second day, but beyond that, you won’t be able to keep up with other players and the storyline in general.

My great Aunt Mathilda's daughter's cousin's dog is sick and I can't post for a week because I have to babysit. What now?

Post how long you'll be gone in the 'Notification of Absence' thread. If you can, have your character excuse themselves from the scene they're in. If you can't, the STs will take care of removing the character for you. When you come back, have your character enter a scene or start a new one.

When I post, how long or short a post should I write?

Use your best judgment when writing a post. Too long, and other players can’t react to the things your player is saying or doing. Too short, and other players feel cheated. One-liner posts and posts that don’t provide enough for other players to respond to are unacceptable and we reserve the right to delete them.

Am I expected to read other threads and topics?

Yes and no. Other threads and topics give you, the player, a general idea of what’s going on and it also gives you ideas on how to approach other characters, conversations you might bring up, and things to have your character do. But if you like to be totally in the dark, don't read the other threads, but don't expect us to keep you updated either.

Isn’t that using player knowledge?

No. Using player knowledge is having your character know something simply because you, the player know it. Regardless of what you discover in other threads, you cannot and should not have your character instantly know things he hasn’t yet heard for himself or figured out. However, you can, as mentioned before, use the information to find an ‘in’ for your character.

Refusing to read other posts because you don’t want to use player knowledge is a very bad copout and shows a lazy, uncaring attitude.

If my character is in a scene, and I want him out of it, what do I do?

Find an excuse and have him leave.

What’s this game about, anyways?

Storytelling. Everyone contributes to the story as it unfolds. This game isn’t about collecting goodies or gaining levels and there's no great Holy Grail quest or uber-mystery to solve.

The rulebooks talk about experience points (XP). When do you give players XP?

We don’t. We’ve found that it’s better for players to have their characters work on gaining abilities, skills or merits in game, and we’ll reward characters those same items in game only. We don’t hand out points for players to leaf through the books and have their characters magically gain new skills in areas they haven’t worked for. It’s not realistic.

When will my character earn new abilities, skills, merits, etc?

When the STs agree the character (and the player) have done the legwork and deserve to be rewarded. Characters that do nothing, get nothing.

Can my character kill other characters?

He can certainly try, but he’ll never succeed, unless it’s an NPC and even that is iffy. We don’t support PC to PC murders or killings, as players put far too much effort in their characters to have them snuffed out by someone else.

Can my character hurt another character?

Yes. Be prepared to deal with the in game consequences.

Can my character die?

If your character does something phenomenally stupid, yes.

Can I have my character kill himself?

In game suicide is frowned upon. If you have an issue with your own character, or don't like him or her anymore, please contact an ST. We don't support disposable characters and will find an alternative solution for you.

Another character is mad at my character...Does that mean the other player hates me?

Get real. Of course not. This is a game, not reality.

Anything else I need to know?

Yes.

Power gamers are not welcome at this site, and if the Moderators, or Administrator, feel that a character will unbalance the game they have the right to deny it.
